DO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS INTEGRATE THEMSELVES WITH BASIC I.T.C KNOWLEDGE?

I will like to tell of my Little know experience, by 2011 when I work in a business center as it is called in the University, a student in the Department of Computer Science came up to me and ask if I could teach her Microsoft Excel I replied OK, while it was morning and I was cleaning I asked this particular student to power on my Desktop so it boot up and I will attend to her needs after am done, to my surprise after cleaning up my office she was still looking for the power button around the CPU.

The question now is do we blame the School or the Student?

One basis challenge that student ignore after graduating is a basic requirements on ICT. What are these basic requirements

1) Introduction to Computer

Introduction to computer give you a knowledge on how you computer (Desktop or Laptop) looks like, it talk about the difference categories of computer ranging from it SIZE, FUNCTIONS or even YEAR OF PRODUCTION.

2) Microsoft Word

In schools around the world knowing about Microsoft Word is quite essential, Ms Word are use to type assignments, projects, articles etc so far it extend towards typing and editing. Updated Ms Word could go far as sending Fax, Plotting Graph etc.

3) Microsoft Excel

Excel software are designed to carry out calculations, it has cells which assist with different calculations.

4) Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint is a presentational software as some will call it. The program uses slides to convey information rich in multimedia. Power can be use for presentation in school or office  it often requires projector when addressing a large audience.

These four tools are the basic requirements as a student and graduate but we in Vimtech will like to add one more.

5) SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)

also known as IBM SPSS Statistics, is a software package used for the analysis of statistical data. Although the name of SPSS reflects its original use in the field of social sciences, its use has since expanded into other data markets. SPSS is commonly used among those affiliated to Social Sciences.

As a university student, these know will be required for job Interviews, E exams, Blog Articles, Project Writing etc Nigeria Education System may not have explored these to us which as lead to constant strike actions.

Knowledge can be acquired at any point in life as its not a waste, many lack these knowledge and I know many want these knowledge, it's not too late or too early as Vimtech Media is waiting for your call.
